Shortcodes & Long Codes
Dialogue offers shortcodes and long codes to be used for two-way engagement.
These codes can be used to stimulate consumer interest, or collect consumer information through advertising or marketing campaigns, or they can be used for value-added services such as television voting, ordering mobile games, making charitable donations and many other mobile services.
Dialogue also offers a range of dedicated and shared shortcodes, depending on the local countries.
Shortcodes
Shortcodes are used for a variety of mobile campaigns, like mobile marketing or advertising, to collect a donation or charge for a service
The numbers (e.g. 80010) are shortened to make them more memorable. They are used for a variety of mobile campaigns, like mobile marketing or advertising, to collect a donation or charge for a service. Typically these shortcodes tend to be 5 digit numbers for the UK, Ireland and South Africa, 6 or 8 for Australia and 3 or 4 digit numbers in New Zealand.
Dialogue provide different types of shortcodes depending on the service you want to run, these include:
SMS shortcodes
- Mobile users respond to the campaigns by texting the shortcode
- Can be used for SMS marketing, purchase mobile content, voting or to enter a competition
- Range of price-point supported and both dedicated and shared shortcodes available
- Available in UK, Ireland, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand
Freetext shortcodes
- Allows mobile users to text a shortcode for free
- Service provider bears the cost of freetext message
- Available in the UK only
Charity shortcodes
- Available to registered charities only to collect donations using Premium SMS
- Charity shortcode range is between 70000 – 70999
- Offered in UK
MMS shortcodes
- Deliver rich content to mobile e.g videos, images
- Available in UK
Voice shortcodes
- Premium call charges from mobiles can now be charged at the same rate as from standard landlines.
- Used for TV Voting campaigns and chat services.
- Zero rate calls from mobiles coming soon…
- Support tariffs from £0.10 up to £2.00 – drop charges also available
- Available in UK
Video shortcodes
- Used for video calling from mobile phones
- Tariffs supported from £0.50 up to £5.00
- Available in UK
Long Codes
Long codes can be used internationally with no local country restrictions.
Long codes are virtual SMS numbers (e.g. 07770 111111), used for two-way communication. The mobile user sends a text message to the long code to engage with the mobile campaign. Typically a SMS long number might be used to allow mobile users to opt-in to receive service alerts or to request information.
Long codes can also be enabled to receive MMS – Dialogue currently supports MMS long numbers in the UK only.
